Sharon L. (Dolezal) Bortscheller

Sharon L. Bortscheller (nee Dolezal), age 78, departed this world on June 13, 2022. Sharon was surely greeted in heaven by her husband F. Douglas Bortscheller and their first daughter, Mary Frances, her parents Frank and Leona Dolezal, and her grandson Jacob. She is remembered with gratitude, love, and affection by her 6 children and their spouses; Mark (Noelle), John (Amy Wing), Joseph (Sara), Michael (Deena Bell), Mary Bortscheller (Christopher Moore), and Anne Schwagerl (Peter), and by 14 grandchildren; Greta, Maxwell, Ella, Owen, Hayden, Isabel, Isaac, Kathryn, Weston, Frances, Louis, Leonard, Nora, and Benjamin. Sharon is also remembered fondly by her siblings and large extended family. We will love and miss her always.

Born July 18, 1943 in Minneapolis, the first of 12 children, Sharon graduated from the College of St. Catherine in 1965 with a degree in social work. After college, en route to a church picnic, she met Doug. They married on December 28, 1965. She also earned a Master of Arts in Counseling & Psychology in 1993 from St. Mary’s University of MN. In addition to raising 6 kids and running a pick-your-own strawberry farm for some years with Doug, Sharon was a social worker and later a therapist helping clients as an LICSW in private practice. Sharon also was a devoted friend to many, and both family and friends will long remember the wisdom she shared through the years. A deeply cerebral and spiritual person who was always reading several books at once, Sharon also loved to crack wise and laugh. She enjoyed travel, gardening, being in nature and, when she was not surrounded by her beloved family, precious time alone to think, write, and read. 

A 10am visitation, 11am service & luncheon will be held July 13, 2022 at St. Joan of Arc Church, followed by interment at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift in Sharon’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, or to Catholic Charities of St. Paul & Minneapolis.

A Celebration of life will be held on July 12, 2022 from 6-8:30 at the Urban Growler ( 2325 Endicott St. St. Paul)
