OBITUARY
 
Revered Dr. Daniel Sasaro Brewer was born on June 21,1943 to the union of Sarah and Rev.
Thomas H. Brewer Sr. He was the first of 11 children. He embraced Christ at an early age and
was baptized and confirmed as a member of the Mt. Scott United Methodist Church, in Harper,
Cape Palmas. He obtained his elementary education and graduated from the Cape Palmas
High School in Maryland County, Liberia. Upon completion, he was granted a scholarship to
study at the Zorzor Rural Teachers Training Institute in Lofa County and graduated in 1965 as a
certified elementary school teacher. He was assigned to teach at the Pleebo Elementary
School. In 1970 he was granted another scholarship to study at the Tubman Teachers College,
University of Liberia where he earned the Bachelor of Science degree in Education. In 1978 He
received another scholarship to study in the United states matriculated at the Perkins school of
Theology, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas where he earned both a Master of
Theology degree and a Doctorate of Ministry degree in Adult Education.
Daniel received the call of God to be a minister in the church while he was still in Teachers
Training and decided teaching as his second job to supplement his minister’s salary because
the Liberian pastors were not paid livable wages. He was ordained a deacon and elder in full
connection for the Liberia Annual conference in1983. Among the many tasks the Lord  assigned
Daniel in His vineyard:  President and Faculty Member of the Gbarnga School of Theology, (a
seminary jointly owned and operated by the United Methodist and the Lutheran Church in
Liberia,  with the Episcopal Church participation) a position he held until the horrific Liberian civil
war in 1990. He also served as secretary of both the West Africa Central Conference (1984-
1988) and the Liberia Annual Conference (1985-1990). He served the Liberia Annual
Conference as representative to the Board of Global Ministries and to a number conferences in
Africa, Europe, The Australian Continents and in various states in the United States of America,
including being an accredited ministerial delegate to the general conference. In 1988. He
itinerated among Methodist churches in the USA to raise support for the Liberia Annual
Conference. 
Daniel and his family moved to the USA in 1990, to escape the brutal civil war in his native
Liberia. He later moved his membership to the Minnesota Conference, was appointed to
numerous churches in the Minnesota Annual Conference of the UMC including: Hennepin
Avenue UMC, Oakland Avenue UMC, United Methodist Church of Peace in Richfield, and the
United Methodist Church in Heron Lake, Minnesota. He was retired from full time ministry in
2012; but continued to actively assist in ministry at both the Webster Hills UMC and the Wesley
UMC in St. Louis and Troy Missouri until his homegoing. 
Daniel Sasaro Brewer also had a gift for writing. He was blessed to assist in writing the Sunday
school's curriculum of the Lutheran and United Methodist Churches in Liberia. He published
numerous articles on African theology and as a budding historian, he wrote and published The
Lives and Legacies of the Late Reverend Thomas Henry Brewer and Edward Augustine Brooks,
A history of the Thomas Henry and Sarah Brooks Brewer family.
 
He was predeceased by his Father, the Rev. Thomas Henry Brewer Sr., four brothers, Thomas,
Dashward, Jessie, Tailmon , and Landis.  He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Ida Parker
Brewer, His beloved mother, Mrs. Sarah Brewer-Harmon, His children, Daniel Jr. (Euphemia),

Gloria (Joseph) Hagan, Yeamah, Robert and Lauretta (Togba) Kun. Six grandchildren, Dadzie,
Dakarai, Danielle-Louise and Zahra, Ivan, Harmonie, His siblings: two sisters, Annie
Zean Brewer and Sophia Brewer Sheriff and four brothers Evans Banie Brewer, Stephen
Brewer Dweh-Chenneh, Henry Sebeh Brewer and Edward Kla Brewer. Nieces, Nephews, a
host of other relatives and close friends.
Daniel’s career and academic endeavors served to benefit young, extended family
members and anyone who needed help in obtaining secondary education, and at least, a 2-
year vocational or college education. He was instrumental in setting up the Thomas Sarah
Brewer Family Reunion and Education Fund, held at (United Credit Union, 802 E
Breckenridge St., Mexico, MO 65265), supported by remittances from family  members in
the USA, which is dedicated to providing monetary support to less fortunate extended family
members in Liberia, and others closely associated with them, in obtaining their secondary
education.
The family prefers memorials to be made as a donation to Thomas Sarah Brewer Family
Reunion and mailed to: Annie Brewer, 415 W., 9 th Street, Fulton, MO 65251.
Following state and health guidelines, the body of Rev. Dr Daniel S. Brewer Sr, can be
safely viewed at Billman-Hunt Funeral Chapel, 2701 Central Avenue NE, Minneapolis, MN
55418 on May 14, 2020 starting at 4:00 pm, This invitation is for 10 or less people at any time to be in the building or on the grounds. If you do come please understand others will be waiting for you to leave before they can come also, but please do come.  A private service will be held at Living Spirit
UMC, 4501 Bloomington Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55407 on May 15, 2020 at 10:30 am and
interment to follow immediately after, at Garden of Gethsemane Cemetery, 8151 42nd Ave N,
New Hope, MN 55427.
The family would like to thank the Minnesota Annual Conference of the United Methodist
Church, friends and well-wishers for their love and support doing this time of bereavement.
A memorial service (of family and friends) for a larger gathering for the celebration of his life
will be announced as soon as the conditions permit.
