Patrick Claire Meekin

Patrick Claire Meekin, M.D., born on October 27, 1927 in Sinclair, Wyoming, died in St. Paul, MN on January 13, 2025, at the age of 97. He attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie and Creighton University School of Medicine, followed by a residency at Saint Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis. After serving in a MASH unit in Korea, he moved back to the US and started a medical practice in a small town in Iowa with Dr. Thomas Meany, his best friend from medical school.  It was there he also met the love of his life, Marita Duffy whom he married in 1959.  He and Dr. Meany established and owned the Columbia Heights Medical Clinic in what was then the small growing suburb of Columbia Heights, Minnesota.  He lovingly served and cared for the community for 30 years. 

He loved outdoor adventure. He loved downhill and cross-country skiing in the winter and biking, hiking, and tennis in the summer. In his later years, he became an avid traveler, exploring all corners of the world.  His favorite place to spend time was at his lake cabin on Lac Courte Oreilles in Hayward, Wisconsin with his family.  There he led all kinds of activities, including snipe hunting, kayaking the lakes, and long bike rides, at first with his children and later with his twelve grandchildren, and extended family. He always had a large number of projects in various stages of completion. The joy was in the building. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marita Duffy Meekin, his father and mother, Thomas and Clara Meekin and his three brothers Bernard, Tommy, and Arne Meekin. He is survived by his five children, Jay (Steve Golat), Ann (Brogan) Ptacin, Bob (Sharon), Paul (Joan Griffin), and Tim (Machelle), his twelve grandchildren, Connor (Erika), Madeleine, Anna, Ryan, Margo, Brady, Alexandra, Lindsay, Maxwell, Aidan, Marita Flannery, Daniel; sister-in-law, Jan, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Patrick's family is grateful for the unwavering loving care and support provided by Heart to Home in Mendota Heights and Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St. Paul.
