Michael Koel, age 64, passed away August 19th, 2022 at Villa At Bryn Mawr Care Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Michael was born May 29, 1958 in Shell Lake, WI to Wally and Jane Koel.
Mike and his parents moved to Frederic, WI in May 0f 1960. He attended grades 1-12 and graduated from Frederic High School in 1976. During these years, Michael enjoyed Boy Scouts, trout fishing, hunting, and bicycling.
Michael attended the University of Minnesota for one year and moved on to working in the sales and construction business. He became a journeyman electrician and a member of IBEW 292 in Minneapolis. Michael enjoyed his work on many projects including the development of the metro light rail system, Target Center, HWY 35 bridge reconstruction and the US Bank Stadium. In addition, Michael worked on projects in Nebraska, Florida, and the state of Washington.
Michael had a great love for travel. He especially loved his trips with family and friends to Costa Rica for deep sea fishing and trips to Alaska for moose hunts, river float trips, and camping. He always looked forward to the annual trout fishing and deer camp trips.
Michael maintained a strong interest in cycling his entire life. He spent many hours on the bike trails in the Minneapolis Metropolitan area. He was a proud member of a cycle team that made many trips from Duluth to Minneapolis which raised thousands of dollars for Multiple Sclerosis.
Mike is survived by his father, Wally Koel (Barb) and brother Pete (Lisa). He is preceded in death by his mother, Jane (Lindberg) Koel.
A celebration of life will be held later this fall on a date and location to be determined. Michael requested that his ashes be scattered among the outdoor places he loved so much.
