Mary Louise Larson (McManus), 81, of Mounds View, MN (previously Duluth) passed away
peacefully surrounded by her devoted family on December 30, 2024.
Mary was born in St. Paul, MN on March 8, 1943, to Lorraine (Fischer) and James Dean
McManus. She graduated from Visitation High School in 1961 and completed her LPN degree in
1962. She married the love of her life Raymond (Ray) Larson on June 16, 1962. She and Ray
lived in Georgia, Germany, St. Paul, and Duluth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband of 51 years, Ray, and infant
daughter, Sandra Jeanne.
She is survived by her daughters Sherri (Dan) Jobin, Sue (John) Brusenhan, and Stacy
(Tommy) Annear; four grandchildren: Alex (Rileny and future great grandson), Evan, Jacqueline
Jobin, and Ross Brusenhan; sisters: Katie McManus, Betsy Sandstrom, and Laurie Keen;
special nephew, Jimmy Keen; special godson, Chris Sandstrom; many nieces, nephews, and
cherished friends: Anna Bohaty, Karin Mascia, and Roseann Rogers.
Mary was a life-long learner having gone back to school in her 40’s to advance her nursing
degree from LPN to RN. She led a life of service to her family, friends, coworkers, and patients
at St. Luke’s Hospital and Mount Royal Clinic in Duluth. After retiring from nursing, she
volunteered at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.
Mary made many friends overseas in Germany and in Georgia while Ray was in the service.
She continued making friends living in St. Paul, Duluth, and many more while traveling with her
family and girlfriends. She spread light and love all over the world and was cherished by all who
knew her. Strangers were friends she hadn’t met yet, according to Mary.
She loved the simple things in life: a good cup of coffee, a funny joke, hosting parties, dancing
and singing on stage, an evening on the pontoon boat, a ride up the North Shore, a good book,
card games, and spending time with family and friends.
Mary’s family would like to thank Bel Rae Senior Living Memory Care Unit and Grace Hospice
staff for their kind, loving, and compassionate care.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 pm followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday,
January 9, 2025, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 215 South 8th Street, Minneapolis, MN. A light
meal and celebration of Mary’s life will follow the service at the church. Free parking is available
at the church and the Minneapolis Club across the street.
Future private interment will occur when she is buried with her husband, Ray at the Minnesota
State Veterans Cemetery in Duluth.
