Wife, mother, sister, and friend Janet Marie Babcock (née Sheppard), age 87, entered the gates of heaven on December 10, 2025, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her life was a testament to kindness, grace, and unwavering faith.

Janet was born on October 22, 1938, in Akron, Ohio, to Upton and Katherine Sheppard. From an early age, she embraced a deep love for family and faith that would guide her throughout her life. She pursued her calling by graduating from North Central Bible College with a degree in ministry—a foundation that shaped her lifelong devotion to serving others and leading by example.

Janet shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband Jack Babcock. Together they raised a loving family grounded in faith and compassion. She was the devoted mother of Melody Herlofsky (Jake), O.J. Babcock (Christie), Charlie Babcock (Kim), and Katie Engel (Vince). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Alex (Anna), Ande, Beau (Ellie), Nolan (Lizzie), Gabriella Herlofsky, Josie, Tarynn, and Noah Herlofsky; and great-grandchildren Nora and Henry Babcock.

She is also remembered with love by her sisters Linda Harrison and Faith Milligan and her brother Tim Sheppard. Janet was preceded in death by her parents Upton and Katherine Sheppard and her brother David.

Janet’s life was filled with joy in both simple pleasures and meaningful pursuits. A passionate singer, she lent her voice to countless choirs over the years—her music echoing the spirit of worship she carried daily. Whether cheering on the Minnesota Vikings or listening to Twins games while crocheting afghans with care, Janet found delight in the rhythm of everyday life. She especially loved fishing—ice fishing most of all—and treasured time spent outdoors.

Her heart was always open to others.  Janet welcomed children into her life with warmth and generosity. She never missed an opportunity to support her children and grandchildren at their sporting events—her presence a constant source of encouragement from the sidelines.

Janet’s adventurous spirit led her across the country as she drove her children to visit extended family members—a reflection of how deeply she valued connection. Through every journey, every song sung in praise, every stitch woven into an afghan or word spoken in kindness, Janet lived out her faith with quiet strength.

A woman who loved Jesus deeply and lived accordingly, Janet leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, service, and steadfast belief.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire lives filled with grace.
