Harriet Brewer Obituary

Harriet Lavonne Brewer was born January 2, 1957.  Harriet relocated with family to Minneapolis, Minnesota via Little Rock, Arkansas in 1961.  She and her twelve siblings were raised in a Christian home where singing gospel music occurred before walking.  Harriet’s mother Vera Jean Jenkins instilled the love of God in each of her children and Harriet loved the Lord with all of her heart and soul. Harriet’s favorite scripture was Proverbs 3: 5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Harriet enjoyed school and graduated from Minneapolis North in 1975.  She was a bright student and enjoyed going to school. She also loved to play sports such as volleyball, baseball and shot put.

Harriet had a special place in heart for her grandchildren as they affectionately called her “G” Mom and she called them “G” babies. Harriet on any given weekend she would have her “G” babies over to watch movies and hang out.  She saw something special in each one of them and always encouraged them to do their best.

Harriet also loved spending time with her brothers and sisters at cookouts and family gatherings where she would demonstrate her avid domino and card playing skills.  She would let you know how good she was by saying, “Come on, sit down and let me school you!”

Harriet was employed by Minneapolis Public Schools as a Food Service Coordinator, until she retired in 2018.

Harriet is preceded in death by, Vera Jean Jenkins-Mother, Kenny Ray Brewer-Brother, Marilyn Jacobs-Sister, Katherine “Cookie” Brewer-Sister.
