Florence Philomene Weirens November 2, 1933 – June 12, 2026
Florence Philomene Weirens, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026, surrounded by the family and friends she loved so dearly. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a loyal friend whose warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Florence was born on November 2, 1933, in Cold Spring, MN, to Joseph and Ida (Dietman) Stang. She grew up in Cold Spring, where she graduated from St. Boniface High School. On July 19, 1955, she married the love of her life, Alois Peter Weirens, and together they made their home in Northeast Minneapolis — a community she would proudly call home for the rest of her life.
Florence had a gift for nurturing people, and nowhere was that more evident than in her work at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School, where she served as Food Director for over 20 years. She took tremendous pride and joy in that role, feeding not just the bodies but the spirits of the children and staff in her care. Her dedication to her faith community extended further still — she served with grace and purpose as President of St. Charles Borromeo's Women's Council.
Outside of her service to others, Florence lived with a zest that those who knew her will never forget. She was a formidable card player — a regular in multiple card clubs — and woe to the one who underestimated her at the table. She cherished family camping trips to Crosslake, Minnesota, and delighted in girl road trips and adventures with her dear friends Priscilla, Marlene, and Anita. In everything she did, Florence brought warmth, laughter, and an open heart.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alois; her sisters, Viola (Bud) Odegard and Iris (Sylvan) Phillipi; her brothers, Irvin (LuVerne) Stang, Louis (Mary) Stang, Joseph "Sonny" Stang, Jr., and an infant brother.
Florence is survived by her children, Marilee (Duane) Bailey and Jeff (Julie) Weirens; her grandchildren, Grant and Justin Bailey, and Sierra, Aurora, and Skylar Weirens; her sister, Ida Mae (Gene) Rossman; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 10, at 10:30 AM, with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 2739 Stinson Parkway, St. Anthony Village, MN 55418. Burial will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
