Roman, Dorothy (Dottie) age 97 of St Anthony Village passed away on July 13, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Freeport, MN to Ben and Olive Laing on July 26, 1926. She started her career as a cadet nurse, continued nursing studies at St Catherine’s College then became a longtime R.N. at St Mary’s/Fairview Hospital where she received the Christian Nurse Award and spent time as an MNA delegate. Married to loving husband Richard for 57 years they raised three children in St Anthony Village. She was a devoted Catholic and volunteered throughout her career with many groups within St Charles Borromeo Church including, Serra Club, rosary, funeral, wisdom, blood drives, VIP and adoration as well as with many other organizations including St Anthony Garden Club, the Guthrie Theatre and served for many years as an official at the St Anthony voting precinct. Dottie was an avid traveler who visited four continents during her travels and was a voracious reader especially fond of world history. She also found great joy in spending time at the family cabin on Big Birch Lake.
Preceded in death by husband Richard; son in law Terry Backus; brothers Robert and Bernie Laing; Sisters Harriet Cash and Ruth Klis; brother in laws Henry Cash, Richard Klis and Neal Roman.
Survived by children, Cheryl Backus, Blake Roman, Rawn (Toni) Roman; Grandchildren, Alissa (Jason) Nelson, Matthew (Cindy) Backus, Brianna (Eric) Oliverius, Robert (Athena) Roman, Ashley (Boris) Cvijetinovic, Mady Roman; brother Fritz (Shirley) Laing and sister in laws Mary Ann Laing and Donna Roman; 11 great grandchildren, loving relatives and friends.
Funeral Mass Tuesday July 30 10:30 AM with visitation at 9:30 AM at St Charles Borromeo Church, 2739 Stinson Blvd NE St Anthony 55418. There will also be a visitation on Monday July 29 from 5-7 PM at Billman-Hunt Chapel 2701 Central Avenue NE. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery immediately following the luncheon.
