James Clayton Rath, age 79, Christ-follower, veteran, avid runner, and generous spirit, was called home to be with our Lord on February 25th after a long battle with Alzheimer’s in Minneapolis.
Preceded in death by parents, Harry Patrick and Mary Ann (Guile) Rath; brother, Patrick Royal Rath; niece, Sandra; and great-nephew, Andrew Lundquist.
He will be greatly missed by his loving children: Julie Peralez, John C. Rath, Jeanne Mickle, Jo Ann (Fred) Schosow; grandchildren: Raphael, Julia, Bentura Peralez, Aurora Schossow, Brandon Mickle; great-granddaughter, Victoria Peralez; sister, Laurel (Peter) Andersen; nieces & nephews; cousins; running friends and neighbors.
He touched many lives with his volunteering and was a helpful spirit through numerous organizations and associations over the years: Knights of Columbus, Habitat for Humanity, MDRA Running Association, Grandma’s Marathon, and many more. “Hi, this is Jim!” was his smiling way he talked and encouraged people to pursue their passions and goals. He had a long running career, running over 75 marathons which started after age 40. James served our country on the U.S.S. Newman K. Perry Naval Ship during the 50’s as an underwater Fire Control Technician.
Visitation 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1st at Billman~Hunt Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 2nd at the funeral home with Visitation 30 minutes prior. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
